First Light of 18-Inch Dobsonian GOTO Telescope (16-1-2015)

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of our society, we upgraded our flagship telescope (the 18-inch ultra-compact telescope) into a fully automatic GOTO telescope. Tonight, we had our 'first light' of the telescope and it certainly did not disappoint. It was simply amazing to have Jupiter at 500x within the eyepiece all the time and the hand controller could easily be handled by all participants. Last but not least, we observed the icy nucleus of Comet Lovejoy which was the brightest comet in the northern sky since Comet Holmes in 2007. What an eventful night filled with historic moments!
